The Enhanced Editions of Planescape: Torment smooth overs many of the difficulties of playing old games on modern hardware. You can run the game on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus, but the default installation package for the Enhanced Edition games don’t include a lot of software dependencies and libraries the games need to install properly.
Fortunately, you can install them all at once through the Terminal. To install the libraries, first open a Terminal window by hitting the CTRL+ALT+T keys simultaneously or by searching for “Terminal” in the Dash. Once the Terminal opens, enter this command:
sudo apt-get install libc6:i386 libasound2:i386 libasound2-data:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386 libjson-c2:i386 libopenal1:i386 libstdc++6:i386 libssl1.0.0:i386 libexpat1:i386 libx11-6:i386 libxau6:i386 libxcb1:i386 libxcursor1:i386 libxdmcp6:i386 libxext6:i386 libxfixes3:i386 libxinerama1:i386 libxrandr2:i386 libxrender1:i386 libjson0:i386
The apt utility will then download and install these libraries. Depending on your connection speed, it might take a while.
After that, you can run the installer for the game. The installer will be a shell script, so you will need to mark it as executable from the Terminal. For example, if the install script is named “GameInstall.sh” and it is located in your Downloads folder, this command will mark it as executable:
chmod +x ~/Downloads/GameInstall.sh
Then execute the script with this command:
